New look for waffle.ie

March 19th, 2008

I have been working on the layout of Waffle.ie over the past week or so. The aim being to make it more distinctive. To be honest, I am struggling! However, I think I am getting there. Ive given it a fixed width and changed the colour scheme.

Also part of this work was to come up with a new logo. Thanks to Fahmi, the logo is now in place, see attached. Im very happy with it, the chattering teeth has always been an image that summed the site up and its nice to have finally worked it in.

I need to work on blending it in better than I have, the colour scheme will have to change. I would be interested to hear opinions on the logo, layout and colour scheme.

Further to the design of the forum, I am planning on giving the Arcade and Casino greater visibility on the site. First step was to give them each a sub domain.

Next step will be to design a new index page for the site, i.e. not a VBA page. If anyone has attempted this or knows of examples, pass them on.

UPDATE

I have since installed VBSEO and its default style. There were a number of issues with the customised theme.

    Revamp looks good, Gary.
The one thing I don’t like about VBAdvanced is how there is no easy/logical entry point to view the forum. It’s a bit difficult to get to waffle.ie/forum.php from the homepage as there is no call to action.

I know there is a link in the sidebar but it’s not obvious enough for me. I would consider putting a big banana button on the left sidebar above the sidebar which says ‘enter da forum’ or something like that..

Also, these images - http://www.waffle.ie/images/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif - need to have a transparent background so they blend better.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the feedback Cormac. Ive been meaning to replace the images specified.

Regarding the forum link, from what Im told, the majority of my users dont actually use the forum.php page. I havent used it since VBA was installed.

Over the coming weeks, I am going to remove VBA and add a self made index page. This will then link into the forum page but also highlight the Arcade and Casino more than they are now.

How goes the Wordpress MU install ;)

The MU install is finito baby. (well nearly).
It will always require some level of maintenance and tweaking but it has gone well.
